STUDENTS LEARNING ENGLISH:
It is so nice to see so many foreign students visiting Hastings to learn English. But as they travel around the town, so many are heard speaking to each other in their own languages. No wonder:

We’ll begin with box; the plural is boxes.
But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese.
Yet the plural of mouse is never meece.
You may find a lone mouse, or a whole nest of mice.
But the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always men,
why shouldn’t the plural of pan be pen?
If I speak of a foot and you show me two feet,
If I give you a boot, would the pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth, and the whole set are teeth,
why shouldn’t the plural of both be called beeth?
If the singular’s this, and the plural these,
Should the plural of kiss ever be keese?
We speak of a brother, and also brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him.
But imagine the feminine, she, shis and shim!

GIFT AID
A reminder to all parishioners that it is very easy to become a member of the Gift Aid scheme. As long as you are a taxpayer, you need only fill in the form available after Mass with a few details and return it to Ann-Marie or Sam. Please note: every £5 you give in Gift Aid is worth £6.25 to St Mary Star of the Sea. Thank you. Would the donor of envelope 25A please contact Lisa Young on 01424 210263 or email her at stmm@btconnect.com as these numbers do not exist on our system. We want to allocate a proper number and a new box of envelopes to the donor.
