SHOPPING

I think I want to say to you

that I haven’t got the time

to go and do your shopping –

I’ve got a load of mine.

--

I’ve got to get the dinner

for tomorrow and today

and take in the dry cleaning

and buy the hamster hay

--

get new shoes for my daughter,

a bucket for the mop,

a brush for the washing-up.

cleaner for the worktop,
--
plant food for the greenhouse,
a mower for the lawn.
I don’t think I’ll be finished
until it’s almost dawn.
--
So as I was trying to tell you
in a roundabout sort of way,
I cannot do your shopping,
so do your own today.
